Some panel and presentation highlights from SDHistCon Winter Quarters 2025

Thanks to everyone who attended our SDHistCon Winter Quarters 2025 convention on Feb. 8! More than 150 people came for some or all of a full day of gaming events, covering game demos, topical panels, company updates, and more. Our Favorite Historical Games of 2024: Dan Bullock of Game Design Deep Dive and a slew of designed games, Liz Davidson of Beyond Solitaire, and Dan Thurot of Space-Biff! talk through their favorite historical games of 2024, the state of this corner of the hobby, and much more:

From Maya to Modern: The Emerging Hobby in Latin America: Designer Jason Matthews hosted fellow designers Frederico Benitze Conte, Luis M. Salas and Frager Lima, all of whom participated in the second incarnation of the Zenobia Award process. They talked about the state of historical games in the Latin American world.

Pete Pellegrino talks The Game of International Commerce and Environment (ICE) in the Arctic Region: SDHistCon founder and game designer Harold Buchanan interviewed Pete Pellegrino of the U.S. Naval War College about his history there and his new game, The Game of International Commerce and Environment (ICE) in the Arctic Region, coming from Table Top History.

Kai Jensen teaches Patrick Pence “How to Play Fighting Formations”: Patrick Pence, of the Patrick’s Tactics and Tutorials YouTube channel, got a tutorial on GMT’s Fighting Formations series from lead developer Kai Jensen.

Grant interviews Grant: Grant Linneberg of Pushing Cardboard interviewed Grant Dalgliesh of Columbia Games on that company’s past, present, and future:
