We would like to invite you to this year’s SDHist Con Summit 2023 in San Diego, CA, taking place on November 3-5 in Point Loma at the SES Portuguese Hall! This year’s convention will be two blocks from the San Diego harbor, a few miles from the San Diego airport, and surrounded by delicious restaurants and affordable hotels.
Our annual convention sells out every year, so we encourage you to get tickets quickly! Those who register in advance will also get access to the convention Discord server and will have the exclusive ability to participate in Zoom meetings with designers and other gaming figures in the buildup to the convention. We piloted this program with our registrants for SDHistCon East in August, and it was very popular. Convention Discord server access also gives registrants the ability to chat with the SDHist crew to express your opinions and brainstorm ideas on what you would want at the convention.
This year’s convention will have the usual mix of historical game designers, publishers, influencers, prototypes, and gamers. You will have the opportunity to see and play games that no one else has seen with our various protospiel events. Designers will also demo games under development and publishers will show off their best and brightest new and upcoming historical games.
We are narrowing down the nominees for the SDHist Summit Award (for games published in 2022) as we speak. We intend to have all four finalists available for play at the SD Hist Con in November. Be sure to play or give them a good look over and be ready to vote for your favorite game that broadens the hobby through the ease of teaching and/or play, uniqueness of topic, or novel approach. The winner of the inaugural Summit Award (for games published in 2021) is Red Flag Over Paris, designed by Fred Serval and published by GMT Games.
We will also conduct various panels and lecturers involving our celebrities in attendance, covering a variety of topics like history, media, publishing, and community development. We will also give a talk on the state of the SDHist organization and solicit your thoughts on what more we should be doing to further the hobby and build a diverse community around it.
We usually have a terrific selection of publishers selling their games available for purchase, as well as great game giveaways and silent auctions. This is all in service of our mission to create a diverse and supportive gaming community dedicated to playing, discussing, designing, and promoting historically-based board games. Through this commitment, SDHC seeks to serve the existing historical board gaming community as well as grow it through the addition of new voices and perspectives.
If you have any questions, please let us know. Please note we are well ahead of prior years sales and expect to sell out soon, so please grab your registration!
